When we consider a job in Real Estate we often imagine ourselves selling mutli-million dollar houses in beautiful locations. Television shows, such as HGTV's "Hawaii Life", help us believe that selling a house is glamourous, relaxing, and often can be done in one beautiful sunny day. But as REALTORS® in Ottawa, where the summer is short lived and the market is always changing, we know better than to believe what we see on "Hawaii Life". Like with any job, being a REALTOR® can have its ups and downs, and it's the REALTORS® who go the extra mile that will truly succeed in the business.
We asked a few of our REALTORS® to tell us about a not so average day in the business and we heard a wide assortment of stories. A few REALTORS® explained that despite having confirmed a showing with the home owners, they've showed up on the appropriate day and time, only to find the home owner still in bed sleeping! Other REALTORS® have explained that they've had to bring out the rubber gloves and scrub a listing clean before an open house, or shovel out the driveway or walkway to ensure potential buyers have somewhere to park and a clear path to the house.
Moreover, a few REALTORS® laughed at the odd ways they accidentally stumbled upon clients. One ended up signing a client after they accidentally scratched the side of their car in a parking lot and began speaking about real estate while they were exchanging information. Another was asked by their dental hygienist out of pure courtesy what they do for a living and the conversation later turned into a partnership.
There’s never a dull moment in the real estate industry. If becoming a REALTOR® is something that interests you, contact our Team Leader today!
